Hi,

My PR application is in process under CEC. I got recently married and added my spouse to my existing application. I have provided all the asked forms along with Marriage certificate, wedding photos, birth certificate of spouse etc.
My spouse and I have the same last name before marriage.

Now I have been asked by visa officer :
"Client Information: I notice that your spouse’s family and your family all have same last name, *****. Please provide proof that you are not family related"

The marriage certificate clearly states bride and groom's parents name.
So I am not sure how can i provide the proof that we are not family related.

Please help!!!

On the family information form, did you write your spouse's family members' surnames the same as yours?

Yes, I will try to provide all the proof I can find to prove that we are not related.

It's not that common but in our case it was just coincidence :)

I was just wondering if it was like a Chinese surname where there are very few and thus they are common. In any event, I would try to find whatever proof you could and then submit that, along with a letter of explanation, showing that you are not related and just happen to coincidentally share a surname.

If I were you, I would create a PDF as first page to be a well drafted formal explanation letter followed by 6 scanned passports - mine, spouse's, spouse's parent's and my parent's.
My parent's passport would have different mother and father name. My in-law's passport will obvsly have different mother and father names. So since ther are not related, so aren't me and my spouse. This might sound confusing and not sure if that would work 100%. But that's the best shot I would have given, since everything else (marriage certi, pics etc) already are in the file.
