Hi,

I am from India. I want to apply for the Canadian PR. I got in touch with an Immigration Consultant a month back who has tied up with a Canadian Consultant. Now a few of my friends applied in 2014 July and moved to Canada a couple of months back.

Even I am thinking to apply myself, however the consultant is warning/advising ::) that the process has changed since Jan 2015 and therefore a consultant's help is critical in obtaining a successful PR.

I would like to know if the process is really cumbersome or can I apply myself also for the PR.

A quick reply will be helpful

Cheers!

It is a DIY process. Check this forum on details how to apply. If you have doubts ask in this forum. As long as the consultant does not charge you it is fine. But, do not waste time and money by going through them.

The consultant is already playing loose with the facts. There have been no significant changes.

They are correct, the process has changed since Jan 2015, and most economic immigration applications since go through Express Entry.

While I have seen many successful Express Entry applications lodged through consultants (on this forum), I canceled mine because I wasn't satisfied with the answers they were giving me.

You can do your due inquiries with this consultant to see if they are right for you. But basically, if you think you cannot afford to get the services of this consultant, then don't get them. Like others said, it's perfectly possible to apply to Express Entry on your own.

It is implied by the OP's mention of the process change in January 2015 that he is applying to PR through a skilled worker/economic immigration stream, hence Express Entry, which started to manage FSW PR applications in January 2015.
I admit, I am guessing which of the several Canadian immigration streams the OP is interested in, but Express Entry is definitely a route to Canadian PR.
