My wifes PRTD (one year, multiple entry) expires August 10th - we’re waiting for some critical documents in our current country to be able to leave but there is a risk we will not have those in hand by August 10th.

Is it possible to ask for an extension of her existing PRTD? Or, do we have to let it lapse and then apply for a new one which means we won’t be able to leave here for another 4-5 months).

Thanks

You would need to apply for a new PRTD if you are not able to travel in time.

Ok thank you - will it be held against us for not using? Or will the fact there’s a pandemic be taken into consideration?

As long as you meet the residency obligation (or you are a new PR and the residency obligation doesn't apply to you), there won't be any issue in reapplying.
