Returning to canada on study visa after study is complete

Hello everyone. My friend came to canada on study visa in 2015, but he changed his course after landing here. He completed his study and got 3 year work permit now. But he has not got visa stamped on his passport. His original study visa is multiple entry and valid till march 31. He has tickets booked for mid jan. Can he visit India and come back on the study visa? Can he face any problem due to this while returning to canada?

Assume you mean his TRV is multi entry given a study visa is not a travel document ?
