I am currently living in UK; I previously had 'landed immigrant status' in Canada. I would like to go back but am unsure where to start. I have family (mother, sisters and brother there) and with the permanent resident changes being made a few years back, would like info as to how I would find out about my being able to return to Canada permanently. Before leaving Canada I had lived there for around 26 yrs. Also, if I planned a return trip to Vancouver, could it be done there while I was on holiday? (I wouldn't work and I would leave for any time required if need be!) Am merely exercising my options and trying to find out any information that could help me.

If you only had permanent resident status (as opposed to taking Canadian citizenship), and you were not a spousal PR applicant who has been living with your sponsoring spouse overseas, then you may have lost your PR status by being gone for 7 years. It is my understanding that permanent residents have to reside in Canada for at least 2 years in every five year period in order to maintain their permanent status. Not sure what you do from here. You might find this CIC processing manual to be of interest.

Thanks...I realise my options will be limited, but will check out your link. Your response is appreciated.
