Hey,
After I lived in Canada for 2 years me and my family had to move back to our home country, where I've lived for ~7 years now. We had applied for permanent residence, and got it in 2016 (I have the card & a SIN). Since then we didn't move to Canada though, so none of us are fulfilling the requirements to keep our pr.
I'm now 18 and thinking of going to study at a university in Canada after I complete high school next year, and it would be very favorable not to have to pay international tuition fees. My pr card expires November this year, and I'd be applying to the university in the next couple of months. Due to Finnish national service requirement, I'd be going to study a year after completing high school (20 years old) so in 2023.
I know that the pr card expiring does not mean my pr status goes away immediately, so is there something I could do to make sure I don't lose it or in the case I do then get it back? I've read of parents forcing you to move away working as a reason to keep it for some other people. What are my options, and is there anywhere I could ask/contact official immigration services? From what I found the online contact form is currently for urgent requests only.
Thanks in advance.
