Hello, hope you are all well.

My partner and I are confused over the paperwork we require for myself (A British citizen) to live in Canada as a permanent resident.

Our situation is this: We have been together for almost two years and we are engaged. I came back to Canada May 2013 on a one year work visa, so I will be returning to the UK this May. We will be applying for my residency once I am home (We heard the process was much quicker if I am outside of Canada) My partner will remain in Canada. The only problem is we are not sure which application to use? We have only found the application for conjugal partners currently living in Canada and for conjugal partners living outside of Canada. We are neither as she will remain in Canada and I am outside of Canada. This is due to an immigration barrier.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks.

To apply for sponsorship you must either be married or common law (common law means that you have lived together continuously for at least one full year). You don't qualify under conjugal since you face no immigration barriers to getting married or becoming common law. I would recommend that you move over to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum and read through the discussions there.
