Simple question: we are considering getting my husbands fingerprints ready for an RCMP check (just in case the VO asks, we will have them ready)....I was wondering what the fee is? Is it just the $25 because someone told me its FREE b/c its for immigration but that doesn't sound right to me...

It cost me $30 back in 2009.....no idea how much it is now but it certainly will not be free.... ;D

you have to wait until they request them before you do them. You actually send the fingerprints to immigration, they send it to the RCMP and the RCMP sends it back to immigration. Yes it is free because immigration sends it.

the reason you have to wait for them to ask is because they send you a form to take to get your fingerprints done which has to be signed by the officer, so you actually cant get it done on your own....unless you are talking about inland....im talking about outland....if you mean inland then disregard my comments lol

thanks for the info!! I was actually talking about OUTLAND too :-) Well I was reading the RCMP website and it shows that we can get the prints done by going to a local police station and getting the fingerprints (all the specifications on what is needed when doing it outside of canada is on the RCMP website).....we intended on following those instructions. I read online that its $25 dollars for processing with the RCMP. I read that others did this step BEFORE the Visa Office asked as it saved WEEKS, if not months, of wasted time....so essentially I would lose $25 if I do it myself- sounds like a small price to pay for a few months of saved time I guess. I think I'll go ahead and ask my husband to get them done at a local police station (shouldn't be an issue many of his family members are police officers....lol) and just send them into the RCMP and have them send the results to the outland Visa office- can't hurt :-)

Anybody else do this?
