Hi All

I have just received my passport request. My girfriend and I are not residing in Canada but we are engaged. Shall i marry her before travelling to Canada or shall I travel then come back to marry her and file an application for her?

Please i will appreciate your kind advice, which of the process shall make our immigration easier? I have less than 4 months to travel.

You cannot include your fiance in the application if you aren't living in a domestic partnership arrangement already (which I suspect you are not since you would have had to include the fiance in the original application if it were so).

If you first marry before going to Canada, then you would HAVE to inform CIC and add your wife in your application and get her visa processed BEFORE they will issue you a visa (or if visa is already issued, it will be cancelled and a new one will be issued before you can land in Canada). Needless to say, this will definitely add time to the current processing time but I suspect not longer than a few months (not sure how long exactly).

If you marry after landing in Canada, then you wouldn't have to worry about your visa, but would need to start the process of sponsoring your wife afterwards. This of course means overall a longer wait time (could be years) for your wife before she can join you. However, if you were planning to settle yourself first and then bringing your wife to Canada, this might not be a problem.

The rest is your decision. I would like to qualify, however, that my information is based on reading other people's experience in the forum and not my own.

I would strongly persuade you not to jeopardize your PR visa with marriage. CIC will most likely become suspicious of an arranged marriage since it is supposed to take place on the eve of visa issuance. Better get what you struggled for with no hassle and sponsor a family-class visa afterwards.
