representatives

Just looking for feedback on representatives. How to choose one? How to determine if they're good or bad? Lawyer or Consultant? Any input would be appreciated,or maybe it's not good to talk about this here considering the host of the forum.I'm out in western Canada and seem to have limited choice in my area. Can a person use a represenative from another province?

Do you really need one? If you read everything carefully and ask questions on the forum, you'll save yourself thousands...Unless you're case is complicated, which could cost you over 2+k

I agree, if you have a simple case... reading these forums and asking whatever additional questions and finally reading through the guides carefully... will save you a heck o' lot of cash!!! However, if you fee you need one, I thing there is a thread on representatives if you do a quick search on this site... I remember reading one where people were recommending good and bad ones...

I'm not sure what would be called a complicated case? My thoughts around our case is that it is complicated,after failed TRV's and the harsh rejection letters concerns me. Reading some of the posts on this forum are great, but I find myself thinking what and how are we suppose to do things. I know that CIC says what is needed,but it seems like that is not enough for some VO's,and there're looking for any reason for rejection.

Well many people have failed TVRs, they are harder to get these days because well face it, they are trying to avoid people who are not going to leave the country. And whether you can prove you are a real visitor or not, I think alot if not most will be rejected during at least one attempt (my spouse included...)

A complicated case for example but not limited to...both divorced, or in process of a divorce, where and how you met, how long your courtship has been, are there children involved, amount of proof you have for your relationship etc etc. Like I said list is not exhaustive and typically one of these things is not such a big deal but in combination with one or more... yeah VOs start taking a good look. Typical mistakes that people make and coudl alleviate the problems... putting ample amount of proof of relationship (pictures, texts, phone bills , cards, e-mails , letters of support from family and friends etc etc.)

Other posters can probably offer you some more advice... but honestly if you are feeling unsure, find a consultant.

I hired a consultant to do my forms and help us through this process. Ours was just a little complicated because of non accompanying dependant kids who did not undergo a medical. Like the others are saying, if your case is uncomplicated, save the money (ours cost $1800.00, lawyers are more) and do it yourself. If you want to be confident that the paperwork has been completed correctly, you can take it to a consultant for around $75.00 to have them check it over before you send it in. If uncomplicated use this forum for unanswered questions you may have and do it yourself, if complicated, it may be best to use a representative. Good Luck.....

Thanks all,our case is a complicated one. Between the two of us, three marriages,a child,small age difference,religions etc. Yep time for a lawyer,I think we need more than luck!!! I'll keep reading here for the wealth of info/advice and peoples experiences,also ask questions as time goes on.
