Replacement of visa and study permit

Morning everyone.
I'm international student presently studying at university of Manitoba. Few days ago, I accidentally lost my passport. I already applied for a new passport. My question is: how can I change my study permit which has my old passport number on it. Will it been an issue for me since I will come back to my country for vacation???

Did you not keep a photocopy of the passport bio pages just in case of such an event something which most people would advise to any traveller as makes it much easier to fix things ?
