Hi all,
Recently I lost a USB drive that contains sensitive information. I’m worried about identity theft and information leak, so I asked my consulate whether I should apply for a new passport. They said I can do that but may need to apply for a new TRV/study permit.
The thing is, my current passport is not lost or stolen. Normally I can’t renew my passport unless it’s lost or it’s within a year of expiry, but the consulate said this is a special case and I can apply to replace it with a letter of explanation. The expiry date of my passport, TRV and study permit fully covers the length of my study here. If I replace my passport right now, I will still have a valid TRV and study permit — and my (no longer valid) old passport. I won’t have a police file or something.
Should I still apply to replace my passport? Do I need to replace my TRV/study permit in this case if I have a new passport?
