Renewing PR card is same as applying first time?

I finally got my PR card in the mail. I was reading online how to renew (in 5 years) so I would know what documents to keep for doing that.

What I read was they require us to go through the whole process again -- same as when I first applied?? That makes no sense to me!

Can anyone point me to a page that has details for renewal, the cost, and what's needed?
