Dear all I am seeking your kind advice for my case in decision to renew my PR card or any other alternative options feasible.

Here's the background for my family.

We are a family of three, including my parents and me. We got our PR cards in Feb 2007. My father was the chief applicant during that time. The application was made years before the approval ( up to 5-6 years I guess), and by the time when we got the PR card, my father, who was a medical doctor, had already started conducting a series of medical research in a research center in Germany, as part of his doctorial degree program. And back to 2007 when I got my PR card, I was already facing my final exam of my medical school in Hong Kong. So the family made a decision that we soon left Canada and to finish our jobs on hand first.

However my father's research was only successful until around 1 years ago before it is published and could be advanced to the next step of trials. And throughout the years I was also enrolled in specialty training as a paediatrician. Both my father and I got achievement from our field so far ( he did got his doctorial degree and I successfully passed all the required examination in my training), and that we both see promising future in around 3 years' time. (That he could come up with some breakthrough and I could complete my specialty training)

The plan of our family is surely to reside in Canada in the future. And we hoped that with a higher qualification we may serve the country better in some ways. Here comes the question.

Obviously we didn't meet the residency obligation. And after reading through info in the forum ( and sort of common sense), I guess the chance to renew my father's / my PR card is slim, isn't it the case? (if not please would you provide some exceptional case that you might heard of)

So in our situation, do you think that it's better to give up our PR cards first and re-apply later? The problem is of course it might again take a long period of time even the application is successful. Is there any way out, or alternative steps that we should take?

Thanks in advance...

Hi,

As you have not met the PR obligation the PR status might have already lost. If you are still in Germany, you may contact the local Canadian consulate in Germany. They will determine your current PR status.

If you are from a visa exempt country you can enter Canada, better from USA via road. The officer at the POE will probably let you in to Canada and you will have 30 days to Appeal the IAB (Immigration Appeal Board) or there will be a removal order.

If you don't opt this method try for new PR again.
