Renewal of PR card for the dependent son if he loses his sponsorship after 5 yrs

Hello everyone. My brother-in-law, who is now 23, became a permanent resident of Canada in 2013 as a dependent child of her mother (my mother-in-law). If my mother-in-law loses her permanent residensy status in 5 years due to not living in Canada for the required 2 years over the 5 years period, will my brother-in-law also lose his PR card when it comes to renewing it in 2018? He will be living with me in Canada and will try to go to medical school here in Canada. Therefore, he will be in staying in Canada much longer than 2 years over the 5 year period. Is there any way he can maintain his PR card? Please let me know.

His PR status is indepenent of his mother's. As long as he meets the residency obligation - he can keep his PR status even if his mother loses hers.

As mentioned above, your brother in law won't lose his PR if and when mother in law loses her PR status. You would think that since he came to Canada as a dependent. Doesn't work that way. His PR status is independent from his mom's status once he got PR.
