renew pr card...

actaully my friends pr is gonna expired in june 2012 he is in rite now.....
he only want to go back jst to renew his PR card......
can anybody tell when he can apply for renew his PR i mean how many days or months b4 expire?????

He could apply now if he meets the residency requirements but they might not want to send it until the expiry date. I applied earlier for mine and they just took longer and sent me the letter to pick up right around the expiry date. If he includes a letter specifying that he needs his new card now because he is planning to go to another country and stay there until after his card is expired, they might send him a new one but they might also just advise him to apply for a PR travel document when he is ready to go back the next time if the card is expired then.
