So this morning I finally had my medical examination. Apart from the Doctor telling me to quit smoking, I appear to be in perfect health - well, as healthy as I can be given that I smoke lol. After making it perfectly obvious how worried I was about the examination, the doctor did his best to put me at ease, and he was actually pretty good at it lol. I also got a laugh out of him when he asked if I had any tattoos. I said 'no doctor, I wanted one but we figured my immigration was more important.'

The X-Ray was a piece of cake. Pretty much the standard really, you know, change into a robe, stand here, twist into an unnatural position and hold. Done. The wait time was approximately 2 hours when we got there, we waited 20 minutes.

The blood work and pee test was also not that bad. Apart from the band aid tugging at my skin and making it sore, the lady who took my blood was pretty amazing. I told her that I'm not good with needles, and she was fine with that. I barely even felt it, though mind you, the hubby was there telling me to think about our evil kitty LOL! ;D

Then it was off back to the doctors office to drop the form off and we're done. I have the receipts from all the three different places, and plan to make a photocopy of each before enclosing the originals in with our application.

I feel so utterly relieved that the medical is over! I didn't sleep last night at all with worrying about it. Needless to say, when we got home, I went to bed for three hours lol. Looking back, it probably wasn't worth all the worry and stress that I got into over it, but with my panicky day, ir seemed worse than it actually was. But yes my friends, my medical is done and I'm one step closer to sending in the application. :D

Congrats on getting the medical done!

I remember going with my husband to get his done, and I was VERY anxious. I already knew he was in perfect health because the U.S Military have run all those tests themselves, but I just couldn't stop myself. I am also deathly afraid of needles, so when he came out and removed his bandaid right away I squealed! After getting blood work done, band-aids should remain on and hiding that gross little hole for a whole week!

Hahaha. Congrats on getting it done and over with. ;)

Congrats :D told ya there was nowt to worry about lol ...you remind me of me when I was going thru that stage and me too was afraid of needles and the nurse was uber cool too.

Now remember this, you will NOT find out the results of your med until your background/security checks are passed , its the 3 admissable checks towards the end of your PR application, so don;t loose any sleep not hearing for a few months to 1 year !

Next step will be a letter back from CIC Veg confirming receipt of your application once you have sent it off lol which usually takes 2-3 month, then a few month after that you will either get an interview or it may be waived for your spousal sponsership. If you do get an interview don't panic it may be to sign your landing papers after the IO has deemed your marriage genuine. :)

You can relax, there is hardly anything that can deny you when it's spousal.

5.20. Exceptions to medical inadmissibility
A38(2)(a) states that spouses, common-law partners and dependent children who are members of
the family class are not inadmissible even if they have a medical condition that will result in
excessive demand to health or social services

Glad it went well for you though! I had a huge bruise for weeks after from my blood draw.

Oh thank goodness I wasn't the only one. Getting the blood drawn didn't hurt but she must have bruised the vein bad because I had a huge bruise of my arm for a week or more.

And for some reason I was kind of worried about my exam too but I am sure the xray and such was fine. My doctor said that if I didn't get a call from him in a couple of days then everything looked good. I never heard a word so it must have been alright. The only thing I still worry about was having to admit I have depression so I am afraid of what the doctor wrote or how the IO will interpret it. Hopefully they won't think too much of it.

But congrats on getting your medical done. One step closer to being together permanently. ;D

I told the doctor today too that I suffer with mild clinical depression, AND that I don't take pills for it. At least I'm being honest, and they do say that with Spouses they can't refuse you based on the results of the medical anyway so I'm not too worried about that.

Congrats on getting it done! I have mine in december before my wedding, I might change it to afterwards now as I dont want a huge bruise on my arm on my wedding day!! I was worried you would have to get naked and they prod and poke you!

Just to confirm could you list everything you need to take with you to your medical?

I was looking at the list of what you need to take with you one thing was previous medical records? Where do I get these from? Another was for prescriptions, I used to have a prescription for acne medication 5 years ago but I dont take it anymore as no longer have the problem. Do I still need to include this? Slightly confused by this!

Yeah, it was nasty. Mind did hurt though, I was scared when I woke up the next day and had it - I've never had trouble always had good veins for draws. The lady was like all twisting around talking to someone else at the door whilst doing it.

The Xray guy showed me mine and said it was all clear before I left - and told me what should have been there if there were any issue.
I am worried that they didn't make it to Ottawa, my DMP was going to email me the tracking #, never thought about it till recently when I haven't seen "medicals received" in ECAS. Wonder how common that is. Not gonna stress about it, but might start a thread :P

Shandymoo - the only thing I took with me to the appt was the page from the application, the three photos they asked for, and my passport. At the reception of the Doctors office, I was asked where I've lived for the past five years. All of those years were spent in Canada with a 7 week visit back home to the UK last year. They seemed satisfied with that.

The doctor asked me if I had any prescriptions, if I had any medication allergies, and then about my medical history, and my family medical history. I told him I couldn't provide any family medical history because I'm adopted, and that was fine.

Didn't have to get naked, though I had to lie down and pull my pants down slightly so he could feel my abdomen. It was all over really quickly though, and the doctor was a great guy, really putting me at ease. Just had my height and weight checked, and also my eyesight. That was about it. In terms of what you need to take with you, its best to phone the doctors office you'll have your medical at, and ask them what they need from you. They should also be able to tell you where to get your medical records from, should they need them.

i got buffed by the doctor for not mentioning ihad a tattoo...

he never asked...but saw it when we did the medical exam.

so whats the big deal with the tattoo?

I don't remember anything about the tattoo. Eek, hopefully I'm just forgetting. That day was a long day and 4 months ago.
He clearly would have seen it though it's over my heart.

The Doc never asked about my tats I too have one on my chest ::)

Apparently, a lot of doctors who examine people will order a Hepatitis blood test for people who have tattoos. The doctor asked me if I had any, so I said 'No Doctor, I wanted one, but we decided that paying for immigration was more important.' lol. He got a chuckle out of it at any rate.

AHHHHhhhhhhh I seeeeee :D

Ah, that makes sense. I didn't have blood drawn for that.
