Does anyone know if I will be able to work and study right away once I land in Canada? Or will I have to wait until receiving the actual PR card?

When you land, you can get a SIN with your activated COPR.

Yes, with the SIN number that ayrazar mentions, you can work without having to wait for your PR card. You will need to present your COPR to obtain your SIN.
