Regarding Language Proficiency Test

Hello,

I have a question regarding Language Proficiency requirement.

I am Computer Science Engineer and been working in US for past couple of years. I have taken GMAT also and currently pursuing my Masters Degree from US University. Though English is not my native language, it has always been an academic and work requirement for me to communicate in English.

Do I need to take IELTS exam to prove my language proficiency skills? Please suggest.

Yes. They leave it open for you to prove your English by other documents but if it's not your first language, they'll very likely ask you for IELTS anyway so you might as well just take it so they don't delay your application.

if you've professional experience in public relations which include talking with clients, customers in english and you could provide attested certificate from work to prove it + education institutions mentioning the medium of instruction is english. You could write this yourself and let the university office attest it(student office would be more than happy to do that). Do same for your high school and undergrad. If you cannot get all of these papers you would be asked to provide IELTS score

GMAT scores carry zero value as far as CIC is concerned.

What about it? It looks like the visa department is likely to prioritize the processing of applications falling in that 38 occupations list.

Is that true?

Not 'prioritized', they will qualify if your job is not from the 38-list then no need to apply for FSW.

FSW now has 3 categories, 1 is you have at least 1 year experience in one of the 38 occupations, 2 is you have a job offer (AEO), 3 is you are already in Canada and have been in Canada for 1 year on a student visa or a work permit. If you don't fall into any of these 3 categories, you do not qualify to apply for FSW.

Hi,

I am in the process of gathering documents for the FSW category 1 and will be applying from Malaysia. I have a couple of questions related to language proficiency and the 38-List?

Question 1:- I will be giving the IELTS in a couple of weeks to prove the language proficiency in English (first official language), so that is covered. I am aiming for 12 points there (2 in Speaking, 2 in Writing, 4 in Reading and 4 in listening). Now, since I have done my 2nd Masters degree from France and had learnt french from respectable linguistic centers in France (Have passing certificates from Alliance Francaise and the linguistic centers in France). The medium of instruction in the university was French, I gave all my exams and my final thesis was in French also (can get letter from university in France proving that). My objective is to just get 4 points - basic in all four categories in French. Above that I have worked and lived in France and Belgium for a couple of years (have certificates from employer to prove that). My question is that does any of you think I still need to pass the TEF to claim the basic 4 points or all the above documentation is enough to claim basic 4 points in French Language? Personally I think I can easily claim moderate in all the four categories but I want to be pessimistic here.

Question 2:- I have around 9 years of experience in Software Design and Development / Software Development Management. The various titles that I have had include "Software Engineer, Software Development Manager, Software Consultant, Systems Integrator etc.". The job descriptions are also accordingly. I have looked at the 38 list of occupations at CIC website and based on the job description there for certain positions I can say that my work lies in Software Engineering or Software Designing. Can any of you give your opinion whether I qualify in the 38 Occupations List?
