Hello! I have a question regarding the Japanese sponsorship package. Does my girlfriend need 9 photos each of her family if none of them are planning to immigrate here? The way its worded is confusing me. I'm thinking its only for the applicant and any possible dependents that may or may not come in the future. So if its just my girlfriend she only needs her photos? Is that correct? Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Hey Htiran,

I'm not going through the Japan VO, but I would assume you are talking about the pictures for immigration (the ones that have a very specific size etc). If that's the case, only your girlfriend needs them indeed.
Good luck,

I assume you are referring to the section that says: "Supply nine (9) recent photos for each member of your family and yourself (accompanying and non-accompanying)."

The "non-accompanying" people are ones that you are sponsoring, but won't be travelling to Canada right away. These non-accompanying people can be added to the PR application within a certain timeframe after the first people are approved and arrive in Canada.

So if you are just sponsoring 1 partner and that's it, you don't need pics of her family.

Oh, I am very much lost with that - if non-accompanying family members are those that are being sponsored but will be traveling to canada on their own later - then who are the family members who aren't even going to canada? do they have to be included in the application? ::)

Here are some details - I am sponsoring my husband once I am present in canada - he will be going to canada when and if the cic grants us that luxury - and he has a child from the previous marriage and the little kid is staying with her mom and a new step-dad....

Who has to be included on the application of the principle applicant (my husband) and who needs to take the medicals additionally?

thank you

I believe the child MUST take the medical and be included in the application, since he is a dependent of your husband. In the CIC's eyes, in the future something could happen to the child's mom and step-dad, in which case custody would fall to your husband and the child may need to come to Canada. If the child is not declared and medical done on your husbands app, he would be inadmissible as a PR candidate at anytime in the future. Also if the child does a medical and fails it, it could make your husband ineligible for a PR.

If you didn't want to include the child, there would need to be evidence such as court documents or a certified letter stating that your husband has no legal rights to the child and he is 100% dependent on his mom and step-dad only, and that custody would pass to another family member if needed. In this case he would give up any future rights to sponsor his son. I've read cases of applicants breaking off all contact with their previous families including children from previous marriages, and cases where ex-spouses flat out refuse to let children take medicals... and it has often caused trouble for the applicants.

Do a search here and in other forums on "non-accompanying children" to get some more insight, as it seems to be a complex issue.

Ok - no we want to keep options open - never know what happens

I was just confused with the accompanying and non-accompanying definitions

Thanks a lot
