Reg : Visa for Parent (Mother)

Hi, I already have Canada Work Visa (LMO Approved) and will be travelling in the month of July 2013. My mother would also like to accompany me to Canada as she stays with my family.

Can I apply for her Visa now itself or do I need to travel to Canada first and then apply for sponsership? Also under which category can she apply and what all documents she would need to submit?

Any help would be appreiciated.

Your mother cannot accompany you as dependent. Sh should get a visitor visa from the Canadian embassy in your country. Please go to the website of the embassy and check the page for Visit visa.

Your mother would need to prove that she is only visiting you, that she can support herself during her visit or that you can support her and that she has some sort of health insurance in case of an accident or emergency as she will not be covered by health care.

If she gets a visit visa, she gets it for up to 6 months. If she wants to stay longer, she can apply from inside Canada to extend her visit visa. She should do that before her visa expires. If this is accepted, she can stay on and apply to extend again after 6 months. If she is ever denied, she will have to go home.
