refused refugee claim effects on sponsorship

Hi everyone,
I'm new in this forum. I was a refugee claimant, it's rejected, I got the refuse on march 2013 and I left Canada (Quebec) on april 2013. We got married on december 2012 (after two years of relation ship) We got our sponsorship application sent on february 2013. We are in Mexico now waiting for immigration verdict. Everything seems to be ok, we sent everything they asked for, medical, police certificate, but we just got this e-mail where they ask me for the immigration and refugees board final decision about my refugee claim and the reasons of rejecting. So, we don't know if it's normal they ask for this information. What do you think?

Its normal for them to ask because a failed refugee claimant is one of the biggest red flags you can have on a PR application. Canada has also recently added Mexico to a list of countries deemed "safe", and will swiftly reject most refugee applications from Mexico.

So yes it is normal for them to ask about ur refugee claim, and unfortunately it will make ur PR application tougher to be approved because of ur past

Hi Garcesfa,

It's actually quite common for the Visa office to request documents from someone who applied before for refugee, so there is nothing to worry about, and it is certainly good news that they are working on your file. If your Visa office are requesting those documents, go ahead and submit it ASAP..!!

The reasons and final decision are the documents issued by IRB when your refugee got refused.

You should have these documents (Make sure that each document has the IRB stamp). If you don't have these documents anymore, you need to contact the IRB that has your records and have them mail another copy to you.

Thank you both for your anwser. It's good to know that it's quite normal having immigration asking for those documents even if I apply for a different process. Two friends of mine were in the same situation but they weren't asked for those documents, and now they have their PR.
I already sent the documents, I hope everything it's gonna be ok. Thank you.

You have nothing to worry about, as long as your marriage is authentic (which I'm sure it is) you won't have any issues. Keep in mind that being thorough is the agent's job so as long as you provide the documents everything should be fine. By the way, I'm in the exact same boat as you, I currently live in DF with my wife who was a refugee claimant
