hello!

I have a very urgent question.

we are origanally from Syria. me and my parents are here from long time. about 10 years.

My uncle (my mom's brother) had a work permit in sudan and now his permit expired. He can't go back to syria, and he can't stay in Sudan.

And if he stayed in Sudan, he wont be able to work and support himself while things are still ugly in syria. (since his work permit expired)

we want to help him get out of there, and hopefully come to us. Note: he is my mom's brother, and my dad's first cousin at the same time. if that helps! :D

So, We have some questions:
1- how long does the process take?

2- do we need a lawyer?

3- if we need to sponser him as a refugee, how many people need to sign on his sponsership papers? some people say it needs 2, some say it requires 5 people!

3- what is his chance of approval, based on how bad things are in Syria now, and the fact that there is no way he can go there safely!
and the fact that Sudan will send him his passport and documents very soon.

4. since it's very time sensetive matter, would he be able to come to canada as a visitor, until he finds another place to go? or his chance as a visitor is slim?

any information you provide is very appreciated. we are
looking for any way that is fast and have a higher chance of
approval.

thank you very much for taking the time to read my post!

thank you!!

1 - Your family cannot sponsor your uncle through family class. There's a small chance it might be possible through the provincial program. What province does your mother live in?
2 - Your choice
3 - 5 people. See the official CIC web sites for requirements: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/sponsor/groups.asp Before your uncle can be sponsored, he must first be recognized as a refugee by UNHC.
3b - Difficult to say how likely he is to be approved as a refugee. He will have to do much (much) more than prove that Syria is a dangerous place. He must prove that he himself has been specifically threatened and that his specific life is in danger. In other words, he will have to be able to show proof (letters, police reports, newspaper articles) that show that someone is targeting him.
4 - Extremely unlikely. Assume this won't be possible.
