Hey

I'm currently gathering all my documentation as the CRS score is getting lower after every draw and I'm pretty close to it now so better to be prepared incase I do get an ITA

My question is, do you need reference letters from all your employment or just the employment within my time in Canada as I am going through Canadian Experience Class. Ive found an old document checklist that states Canadian employment only but have been told by a woman in Service Canada its all employment I put on my express entry application, so everything outwith Canada as well.

Ive looked online and cant find much or just looking in the wrong place most likely. Can anybody confirm what the requirement is or point me in the right direction.

Thanks, Andrew

Hello Andrew,

I am in the same boat as you are. I just created my EE profile yesterday and was eligible to apply under CEC. Now I have a peculiar case that I hope someone can help me with.

When I created my profile, I was told that I needed to add only my Canadian work experience. After having created the profile, I received my total score which indicated that I didn't receive any credit for foreign work experience. However, I was later told by my colleagues that I have to mention my entire foreign work experience and so I went ahead and added that information. It didn't seem to make any change to my total score (it remained the same as it was before updating my application):

Overall Score 466
CRS - Human Capital - Age 105
CRS - Human Capital - Level of Education 135
CRS - Human Capital - First Official Language Proficiency 136
CRS - Human Capital - Second Official Language Proficiency 0
CRS - Human Capital - Canadian Work Experience 40
CRS - Spouse - Level of Education 0
CRS - Spouse - First Official Language Proficiency 0
CRS - Spouse - Canadian Work Experience 0
CRS - Skill Transferability - Education 50
CRS - Skill Transferability - Foreign Work Experience 0
CRS - Skill Transferability - Certificate of Qualification 0
CRS - Arranged Employment 0
CRS - Provincial/Territorial Nomination 0

The reason I give this background is that it would be extremely difficult to get reference letters from my previous employers (they have flat out refused to furnish any such work experience letters). So I was wondering if I need to submit the reference letters for those jobs that I have mentioned as part of my work experience but for which (I presume) I haven't gotten any points for?

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
K

You need reference letters only for work experience which you are claiming points for.

If you put the foreign work experience on your Expression of Interest profile, and you received points for it, you will be expected to provide the proof of employment experience. If you do not, you will loose the points; if you then fall below the point threshold for the draw, you will become ineligible.

For the expression of interest profile, you should only include skilled work experience for which you gain points.

Later, if you get an invitation to apply, you will have to provide every detail of your life :)

But if you can remove it from your EOI profile without losing points/eligibility, you should do so, it will simplify your application. If you include it on your profile, you will be expected to submit letters/proof of experience.
