I sent the original. I work at a small business (There's only 2 of us) and the letter of employment was hand written by the book keeper, seemed only natural to send the original. That said, it probably doesn't matter if you send the original or a copy.

I sent a copy also from the book keeper.I just had them put the amount of hours i work at what $ and how long i worked for them. How much i make annually ,but that was for spousal sponsorship and how to prove my income.Not the same as a reference letter.but as i said i sent a photocopy.
