Hello All,

I am almost ready to send away my CEC application. The only thing missing are my reference letters from past employers. I have the current one for my work experience in Canada which I think is in good shape. But in the past I have worked many jobs, mostly part time and in some cases the places I worked have now shut down or the managers I had have now left. Do I require reference letters from all of the employers I have ever had and what should I do if I am unable to get these?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thank you.

Hi Intermingle,

You need to provide all the required documents to prove your 12 months of work experience in Canada. If in those 12 months, you have worked for several employers in Canada, then yes - you will need to provide reference letter from all those employers. The end goal, you are trying to convince and prove to CIC that you have worked for complete 12 months in Canada, in a full time job, where the no. of hours per week were at least 30 and along with your salary detail + job description. Job description is again important because CIC needs to be sure that the NOC code you put in your application matches to your experience.

Let me know if this answers your concern.

The document checklist specifies Letters of Employment for the past 3 years.

It is essential to get letters covering all the work experience that you need for meeting program requirements.

Beyond that one year of skilled experience, if you are unable to get other letters from other employers, provide a written explanation; and provide as much information as possible; and if it was unskilled work, say so. And then, don't sweat it.
