Hi All,

I have been sponsored by my husband and arrived in Canada in April,2012. For the landing i was issued CONFIRMATION OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE document by Canada Immigration of which i have only a photo copy. I was not given any RECORD OF LANDING document, do i need this since i was sponsored and not come as an immigratant.

I believe CONFIRMATION OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE is a RECORD OF LANDING document

Why don't you have the original? A photocopy is not any use. The COPR has two parts. You keep your copy for ever as proof of landing and CIC have the other.

Hi All,

yes i have my copy and the first copy was taken by immigration on my arrival and the second copy given to me , however that looks like a photo copy but it is not, was wondering if i can get that certified or get something that looks like the original.

tks....tanya

If you have your signed copy, do not make ANY alterations to it. It doesn't need to be certified or anything.
Good luck photocopying it.. It's 14 inches long :-)

If you landed prior to the IRPA being enacted (before June 28, 2002) then you got a Form IMM1000 record of landing which was both a record of your admission to Canada as a PR and back then also served as a travel document for PR status when seeking post landing admission into Canada.

If you landed after the IRPA was enacted on June 28, 2002 then you got a confirmation of permanent residence (COPR). This is not a travel document. The copy you have will have stamps from the CBSA officer landing you and that's good enough. Going forward your PR Card should be used when you need to prove PR status.

Both documents are historical and detail your bio data etc at landing date. You have to contact CIC for any changes to the document so as per Zardoz don't mess with it.

The you apply for a Verification of status. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certcopy.asp Note that you will require you COPR or IMM 1000 for your OAS and CPP when you retire.
