Asking for a friend:
Has anyone lost their job due to covid and was unable to complete 1 year work experience before their pgwp expired? What have you done as it relates to applying for PR?

A few options:
- You can still qualify for PR without one year of work experience in Canada if you have enough points based on your education, work experience in your home country, etc. One year of Canadian work experience is not mandatory.
- You can try to secure a job offer from an employer that is supported by an approved LMIA so that you can qualify for a closed work permit.
- You can switch back to a study permit and complete additional studies in Canada. However you won't qualify for another PGWP.
- Another option is to return to your home country to gain work experience there to qualify for PR.

Thank you for your prompt response. Unfortunately, without the one year Canadian experience, the points might not be as competitive to apply through FSW. It's a rather unfortunate situation as they will be short of 1 about week experience (30 hours)!!
