Received Study Permit Extension... What about my visa?

I am a little confused.
My wife and I applied for an extensions of our permits. Which we received earlier this week.
my question is, What about our visas?
Is it a separate application? if so how do we apply?

I was under the impression that we will be asked to mail our passports.
