Hi everyone,

I have done the spousal sponsorship for my husband. We already had the sponsorship approved over a year ago, and a few months ago received a letter stating that the PR applications have been sent to the provincial gov in MB where we live. We have heard nothing since.
I have also recently received a job offer in the US. I hate to turn such a great opportunity down, but cannot accept if it will undo this whole sponsorship process. The job would be a 6 month contract with the option to stay on longer if I am a good fit for the company.
Just looking for any information anyone has about working in another country while doing sponsorship.

Thanks :)

I understand from your post that you applied inland. You have to be aware, then, that inland applicants are required to reside in Canada until the immigration process is over. Traveling outside the country and being denied re-entry for any reason will cancel the application.

Yes,sorry, I should have been more clear. We applied inland. My husband is currently attending school in Manitoba. The job would mean my leaving only for the 6 months while he remains here to finish college.

I'm not an expert, but from what I know it depends on one thing. If you are a PR or a Canadian citizen. PR holders must be in Canada at all times (except for a short 2-3 week vacation) during the process of sponsoring their spouses. As a Canadian Citizen, you are allowed to travel. You husband however, might not be able to re enter Canada, so it will undo the process if he is refused.

So my opinion is, if you want to experience this new job for 6 months while you are waiting on an answer for your husband's PR, it shouldn't cause any problems, as long as your husband will not be coming with you and you will be able to communicate normally with CIC.

Someone with better knowledge in this matter may correct me if I'm wrong, as I've stated before, this is just my opinion based on some of the facts I know about the family sponsorship.

EDIT: however, if CIC finds out, they might say that you aren't living together and might raise red flags to your application.
