Hi my people,

I finally discovered why my application was rejected. According to my representative, the visa office evaluated my IELTS score using the old method that was changed in Nov 2008. Under the old method, I was granted 12 points instead of 16 points which the current method would have awarded me. Because of this error, my score fell short of the required 67 points. My representative says if they evaluate my IELTS correctly, then i'm home and dry. And since its an error from the visa office, he's certain that they would reconsider my application. So they've written to the visa office already and hopefully, they'll agree to rectify this. See me see wahala o!!! This Accra office is hopeless!! What do u guys think? Think it might work?

Yes, I think it might work. In the processing manual for skilled workers on page 25, it says:

Note: Visa officers should also assess applications and test reports which pre-date November 28, 2008,
against the above correlation table if it is to the applicants advantage, i.e., resulting in more points
for language proficiency.

The above table is the new table and the one below is the old one so basically, if you have an old application/old IELTS, they are supposed to calculate your points according to both tables and give you whichever is more.

The funny thing Leon is that my IELTS is not an old one! I wrote the exam on the 30th of May 2009!!! Almost seems like the visa officer was trying to shortchange me on purpose. But I choose to see this as a genuine error. As long as they do reconsider it.

ol boy, dis one no be say dem do am intentionally. Mi abi of di opinion say. most of the IO's demselves no do read di thing, especially, those wey don dey do the thing for a long time.

Dis IELTS ting, i don talk about am many times before and di meaning of di clause wey Leon just quote above. If you check for my thread on IELTS wey i post some 3-4 months ago about dis argument, people think say I be yeye. I ask dem say dem dey ask us make we do IELTS but demselves no understand di meaning of wetin dem write for dem own Language - Oyibo.

I beg write dem yourself too, and tell dem about di clause wey dey inside dis OP6e.pdf. No be money you pay? Not to talk of the time wey man de spend to gather di hol ting together and time to wait.
I go work. Just make sure say you plead and don't use any harsh language in your correspondence.

All the best.!!

Bobby thanks jare. U talk true there. Na just long thing. But God on our side, we'll prevail. I just pray that others would not have to go through this kind of stress with IELTS too when they're applying. To my 9ja friends out there, maybe you could also get letters from your university certifying that you studied in English language cus I gather that's also an alternative way of veryifying your proficiency in English. And some french certifications wouldnt hurt either.

I agree with you on one side but on the other side how come dem no know say in Naija di lingua franca/official language na English and also that English na im be di language wey dem dey use to teach dem for schools, especially in secondary schools, polytechnics, colleges and universities. Na im dey surprise me. How come akata -uk people know dat and dem no know. No be commonwealth all of dem dey (LOL). Fela don talk am b4 im say "wetin united for united Nations". I go die o. (MHSR in peace).

Anyway, all that on one side and said. We must not forget say Immigration no be privilege, na beg we dey beg.!!
Best of Luck.

I wonder too!! I had to get a letter from my university verifying my claims to proficiency in english when I was applying for a tier 1 visa for uk (though they accepted that when awarding me the visa). I think, like you said, bcus it's not a privilege we should just do what we're asked to in order to prove our skills. After all, no be by force.
