How much detail is appropriate for the 'reason' field in the physical presence calculator?
For instance, is it sufficient to only say 'business' or 'vacation'? or elaborating more is needed?

Those reasons are fine to use. My wife despite going on "vacation", she will be visiting her family. So we will use "visiting family" as reason.

Depends on how much time your willing to spend of filling the physical presence calculator. In my opinion, writing a bit detailed description would help you avoid omissions and mistakes. An example from my own entry: "Cities visited: East Rutherford, NY and New York city. Reasons for absence: 1)Meet "relation description" "relative name" and Family and Visit New York City.

But in my case I went 5 months to UK after my landing in Canada with family , Do i need to mention went for work or something else. Just your thoughts

I used the following - stating only facts as they were.

1. Returned to xxxxxx to let our children finish the school year. (This was for almost 10 months)
2. Wrap us ongoing business commitments.

"Wrap up" is a better phrase than my "winding down"
