Okay so I came to Canada on a study permit which lasts from December 2013 to March 2015. I came here for a one year program, all of the courses for which ended in December 2014 (last month) and I have received a notification from my college to graduate, stating that I have cleared all of my courses.
Now I have decided to pursue another one year program which starts in April 2015. I have received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for that and on behalf of that, I have submitted an application to CIC for extension of my study permit.
Coming to the real query, I started working for a convenience store in December 2014 when I was still enrolled in college. Recently, since last two weeks of January, my manager at the store has been requesting my letter of enrolment from new college because according to HR, I am not eligible to work since one of the conditions to be able to work off campus (stated on confirmation letter to work off campus) is "be enrolled full time at a designated institution". He asked me to quit the job since I cannot provide him with the letter of enrollment. Since for the months of Jan-Feb-March, I am not enrolled at any institution, what is my status in Canada? More importantly, can I work for these three months? I believe this period cannot be counted as "scheduled break" during semesters.
I contacted the International student department at my college and they were clueless and referred me to contact CIC. I called CIC and and the call centre employee said she has no specific information about my case and she struggled to give me a conclusive answer and whatever she told me, I already knew. Additionally, she asked me to contact an immigration lawyer to get better understanding about my specific case.
Additional information - I have a SIN which is valid till March 2015 along with a confirmation letter to work off campus which is valid till March 2015 as well. Both of these were obtained after the new study permit rules came into affect in June 2014. Also my TRV and Study Permit are valid till March 2015 as well.
I can get the letter of enrolment from new college after submitting fees but it will state that my semester starts from April, it still does not satisfy the condition that, "be enrolled full time at designated institution at the time of employment".
Has anyone else encountered this problem before or know anyone who had the same problem. I could not find anything about this on the CIC website nor on this forum. Please share your insights
