The Hong Kong Visa Office asked us to send them further proofs that my wife (the Canadian) has the intention to go back to Canada in Feb this year and we immediately gathered all information (e.g. Letter of Resignation and Letter of Release from the Hong Kong Inland Revenue) and sent them to the VO in early March. So far, we have not heard anything from the VO. Is it normal? Can someone share their experience? How long does it take for them to send you a request to get the Police Certificate once they received the documents on the intention to return to Canada? Many thanks in advance!

Call them or send them a case specific e-mail enquiry. I sent them an e-mail when I had a question about one of the applicant forms and they got back to me quickly.

There are not a lot of people applying through the HK office on this forum, and I suspect most of the applicants are Chinese and I presume that most may not know of this site or they don't speak English.

Contact them every week...send multiple e-mails until they reply. I'd also contact your local MP and ask him/her to find out what's going on.

Good luck!

Thanks FS! Actually, contacting them seems no use at all. They did reply to us only saying "your case is pending for an officer's review and we hope that you find this useful".....sigh.....don't really know what is going on at their end.

You gave them what they wanted. No news might be just good news and your application is being worked on.

I agree, but if it were me, I'd want some kind of confirmation....that's why I suggested sending e-mails. They'll respond if you word it in the right way...if you have a case number or UCI, that would also be good to include.

Good luck, HKguy...you're going to get the visa soon...!!!

Dear All,

After chasing the HK Visa Office with 2 emails, they finally got in touch with me by phone. They said I need to get the Police Certificate from Hong Kong Police Force as well as the Police Certificate from FBI (as I studied in the states for 5 years). I need to submit both documents within 90 days. They said that the interview should be wavied in my case and they should be able to issue me a PR before my medical expires in October once they received the above 2 documents.

I just sent my application for the Police Check from FBI on May 1 and hopefully, they will send it to me soon. Today, I just went to the Hong Kong Police Force to get the police check and they said that they will mail the report to the Consulate directly within 4 weeks.

Let's hope that my application will be finalized very soon.

By the way, I just checked my e-cas and the status has finally been changed from "Application Received" to "In Process" after half a year....... :)

Good luck to you all!

Cheers,
HKGuy

Awesome news, HKguy!

Not sure how long the FBI cert will take, but for sure it will be done well before October!

So, another successful app through the HK VO. Great!!

Now you can relax a bit and just wait a couple of short months and you'll be on your way to Canada!

Thank you FS! Let's hope for the best! What about you? Did you send in your application? How's the process coming along?

We're doing well, thanks. CIC-M received our app on April 13. Still a long wait ahead of us...but at least we are together. We guess we will hear from CIC-M in the middle of July or at the latest, first week of August. Shouldn't be a problem getting approval...or at least we hope and pray!

Going to HK for a few days in August to relax with my wife and son...can't wait to go back to Grappa's (Italian restaurant) inside Pacific Place...excellent food!
