I will describe my situation in general terms.
I am a Canadian citizen.
My sibling, who has been living in Canada illegally for more than 10 years (by overstaying a visa for which I was a sponsor), passed away while in Canada.
Naturally, when the sibiling needed my help financially I obliged.
I am the executor of the estate in which there is a property oversease that is willed to the family.
For me to complete these affairs, I have to get an official death certificate from the ministry which I officially have to declare myself as the executor of the estate (in the purpose on the form).
Although this might sound like a silly concern, I have found documentation that in the US this is illegal and punishable by fine and imprissonment. Before anyone says it, I know Canada is not the US..but I still have a concern:
Can I be charged with any offence or fined for knowing / helping the above mentioned sibling?
I am thinking of seeing a lawyer with regards to this. I ask that whenever possible that you please back up your answer with a link to some info. I have searched the government websites for laws with regards to this situation but I haven't had any luck.
Thank you for your advice in advance.
