I lost my PR card a couple months back and is now in the process of renewal/replacement. I'm hoping to travel to the States for about 3 days and come back for work the next day, but since I don't have my PR card, my only documents that I think will help me come back is the visitor visa I have that states that I am a Permanent Resident in Canada and my landing papers. I also have a photocopy of the PR card that I lost, if it helps. I'll be traveling by bus, I have a full time job here in Canada, and have travelled often to and from the US for small periods of time prior to losing my PR card. Please tell me if this is viable. If anyone has experienced this, please let me know how it went. All my thanks in advance.

What passport do you hold? Are you visa exempt?

You need a valid PR card or a travel document. The commercial bus company won't let you board for the trip back to Canada without one of these documents.

Alight the bus at the nearest bus stop near the border and walk through the immigration should be fine. :)

Ah, as I thought. Thank you for your help!

Really? Hmm... The nearest bus stop to the border is 29 km from the border. But you're positive? I'm actually considering... It'd be good for my health, heh. Then again, maybe not.

Travel by private car or get a rental vehicle - its classed as non commercial. Seriously though if you don't drive/can't get a ride you have to find a border crossing that allows/ is designed for foot crossing. What's your nearest border crossing? Maybe you should postpone your trip else you may end up stuck in the US and not able to return to work on time.
