My common-law partner and I went to the United States to visit family last month and then returned to Canada 4 days later. When he crossed the border into Canada this time, the officer did not stamp his passport nor issue a new Visitor Record which I suppose could mean that he is allowed to visit for 6 months from the date of entry, but he already has a visitor record asking him to leave this month.
Does his status as a visitor expire this month when the visitor record from last year expires or does his status continue for 6 months from his most recent date of entry?
I guess we will request an extension of his current visit, but I'm wondering if his status is really expiring this month. People say that a VR is no longer valid once you leave the country, but I don't actually think that is correct.
