I have received an email from Citizenship and Immigration Canada confirming my CEC application is complete, they have provided a file number and informed me that my application will be forwarded to a visa office for further processing.

I have left Canada to visit South Africa for a few months and wish to return to Canada, most likely before I get my PR. I have a valid TRV (multiple entry worker type, expires in 2015) but my Work Permit will expire March 19th 2014, I wish to return to Canada in April 2014 as a visitor until my Permanent Residency comes through (expected in May 2014).

Can I come back into Canada with just my valid worker type TRV?

I apologize if this has been asked before but I could only find cases of valid work permits and expired TRV's.

Strange that they issued a TRV that expires beyond the validity your work permit. In any case, the work permit and work visa go hand in hand. The work permit is actually what confers legal status while the work visa allows you to travel and re-enter Canada. That said, your work permit should be valid if you hope to be let in other otherwise you risk being denied entry.

Thank you for the reply. I'm considering applying for a tourist visa, which should give me more or less 6 months in Canada I understand. Hopefully my PR comes through shortly after my arrival as I won't be able to work until then. I understand the processing times is still 14months for CEC applications.
