Depends on your province. In Ontario, it's a three month wait before you get OHIP coverage. That's from the date of landing (assuming you became a resident of the province immediately after landing), so if you're in Ontario, you have another two months to go.
Assume this is for your parents. There are residency requirements so they must be permanently relocating. They wouldn't be able to return home for half of the year. Suggest you read the ohip guide carefully. Many things are not covered. For example a bed in a public nursing home will cost you around $1200/month. Canadians receiving a pension direct their pension to the facility for their payments.
