Quick question about leaving and coming back with extended stay visitor record:

Easy question here.. I'll keep it short and to the point. Just looking for a quick answer to anyone who has done it.

Entered Canada (as an american) in March '13, applied for extension, which was approved in july '13 until july '14.

My GF (the reason im here in canada for PR / common law) wants to visit the states and we want to go together before the time runs out.. is it possible to do this on the same visitor record and be allowed back when the time comes?

Visitor Record says "This doesn't guarantee re-entry", visitor record is typically for applicant to remain in Canada till it expires

but there is nothing saying i cannot visit and return. I know they can have reason to deny me if they find a reason, but im sure other people have done this before with no problem.. any other input from people who have done this?

Once you leave your visitor status ends. On your return you would be examined and may or may not be admitted.

Would having a return ticket (we are taking a plane and visiting only 2 weeks) be any help to satisfy the officer that very little has changed? I would be telling them I would be coming back to finish my year of required common law, which I can only do living together. I also drove here with my car the first time, so it would still be here, along with some things I brought with me to visit.

My understanding is they can either leave my previous visitor record intact, or issue me a new one when I re enter the country. I just don't want to run into issues coming back for just a simple visit.

Typically when you are entering Canada you want to show proof of ties to your home country to demonstrate that you are a genuine visitor. All of the things you've mentioned (car and belongings are in Canada, return ticket from Canada to US and back) demonstrate strong ties to Canada. So I don't see how they will help.

It's likely that you will be allowed back into Canada since you are visa exempt - but there's no guarantee and always some chance (no matter how small) you could be turned away.

If you want something guaranteed, then your only option is to remain in Canada and forget about the simple visit to the US.

Well i am technically still a visitor at this point, I also have a reason to come back (to finish my year stay for common law relationship and to process the paperwork for PR). So i cant really say i don't have any 'ties' to Canada either when they ask. You made a very good point about the return ticket and having my car still in Canada as valid points that also tie me here. But I also want them to know that i have no intention on staying past my previously granted extension, and that if i am approved to stay longer or receive PR, that i will also follow any guidelines they carry with them.

Any idea what the best way would be going about convincing the officer that I am coming back in order to finish my common law cohabitation period, and that the visit is merely for the purpose of my girlfriend coming to meet my family? I dont think i will run into any problems, as my situation has not changed since the day I got here, I have followed all rules regarding visiting, and im merely wanting to vacation and then return to finish my cohabitation period. The whole situation just has me a bit worried, because we have already purchased tickets to visit for two weeks in march and i have read of a few other accounts of people doing this, I just wanted to clarify that this was possible in my own post.
