Hey guys!
Am a US citizen and I had a visit to Canada back in 2009. I applied for temporary resident and was granted it 2 times.. on the 3rd time I never got a response. so I ended up overstaying for about 6 months (we tried to find out what was going on).. I want to visit Canada for 5 days to spend new years with friends that I met while I was there and maintained our relationship via the internet. On my passport all there is was a stamp of entry.
I have no intent on staying, I have a good job and a house here in the US... I talked to the Canadian immigration and they just tell me its a case by case basis. I am worried if I book my flight that i will be turned around and waste money.
Anyone know or have had a similar situation? What do you think would happen when I hit customs? All im looking to do is spend time with friends for new years (leave Dec 28 and return Jan 3).. Thank you

It's impossible to say what will happen for certain when you hit immigration since that decision is up to the individual immigration officer you encounter. But my bet is that you'll be fine. You haven't been back for several years and you'll have a return ticket to prove you are only coming for a short trip. The job, house, etc. will all help.

Canada is a GREAT deal more lax about overstays in the US. If you were a Canadian who had overstayed in the US for six months, it would have been an automatic three year ban.

Okay thank you,
I booked my flight and i will bring as much proof as i can to show im intent to come back .. I will let you know what happens. :o

Wish me luck!

Good luck. Hope it works out. Bring proof that yo own a home, have a job, etc. But don't show this proof unless requested.
