Dear Friends

I am planning to Land in Toronto along with my wife and kid ( I may change this so that they can join me later) . Could you help me to know the following

1. My kid is 2 years old and she quite often get fever . Do we have to book an appointment and wait for days to see a doc ? How is the Medical visit work in Canada?
2. How the Canadian doctor consultation is different from India

Please explain me to me.

Thanks

After you land in Toronto you will have to apply for OHIP coverage.
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/ohip/

You will get this coverage only after 3 months of landing so you need to arrange for a 3 month private insurance to be on the safer side.

Once you get your card try to find a family doctor close to your place of residence.
Every visit to the doctor you need to produce the OHIP card. You can book appointments by calling the counter staff at the clinic. In a emergency situation you can rush to Emergency ward of a hospital close to your residence with OHIP card. In real emergency situation you can Dial 911 and can use the services of a ambulance but they will charge $45 for the service.
All prescription given by doctor you will have to purchase on own. COSTCO is the best place to get in for prescription drugs for a newcomer with no insurance coverage for medicines.
