Questions to those who have already entered canada

hi. i was wondering a few things to those who have already entered into canada.

1. is passport photos required? if so, how many? do they have to be the same as the one on the COPR?

2. according to the excel spreadsheet someone posted about the checklist of things to bring when entering canada it mentions a pre printed IMM5444E form which is the application form for permanent residence card. is that really required?

3. Could you please mention what all was required when you had gone to the counter?

All you need is the COPR and passport with PR Visa stamped inside.

To be allowed to board the flight:
ETA (if a citizen of a visa exempt country)
Note that airlines are VERY confused and will generally INSIST on either an ETA OR a PR card before you can board - even though the CIC website may say otherwise

For immigration:
COPR
Passport

For customs (if this is also your trip to establish residence):
List of good accompanying
List of good to follow
The lists can be handwritten, but preferably typed, they must include a CAD$ value estimate for each item. The list does NOT need to be on any official Customs form, the customs guys will do this for you.

When my wife landed she had a typed up list of everything she had but they didn't ask and she didn't fill any form detailing her goods. They simply asked what food items she had and if there was more stuff unaccompanied to follow.

AIUI, Canadian immigration is quite separate from customs.

Immigration should have passed her on to customs I would have thought. Perhaps she should have specifically said she had good accompanying and goods to follow (Did she? Perhaps she didn't actually have any good to follow, or that the goods to follow were in your name already?).

If you have goods to follow, you won't be able to get them released from bonded store without a stamped and signed customs form already in place.

It has already been noted that some immigration officers are, ummm, errrr, 'better' than others!

Yes, we did go to customs afterwards, they are the ones who simply asked what food items my wife had as she checked "yes" on her declaration card because we brought basically a suitcase full of Indonesian instant coffee lol. They asked if she had meat items and that was it. Wife told them no goods to follow and we were on our way.

Aaah - so by the sounds of it, they quickly decided what your 'goods accompanying' was and decided it wasn't worth the hassle especially as you had 'no good to follow'.
