Can someone please explain how long it takes to receive IMM1017 (medical report section A) after completing a medical? Is it suppose to come in the mail, or is it to be given to you by the DMP when you leave the medical?

I'm horribly confused over this after completing the medical. From what I have read online about other peoples experiences it appears that I should have received something by now. It has been seven weeks since my medical. All I received the day I left the medical were the x-ray and blood work receipts, and nothing from the DMP.

I phoned the DMP over receiving the papers and he told me "it's the government and they are slow, once its ready they will mail the paperwork to me". I'm starting to get the impression that he was talking about the final results issued from CIC, and not the IMM1017 which he should have given to me by now.

The medical was completed in Winnipeg Canada, I am from the USA visiting my spouse on a visitor's visa. I am starting to get anxious as this is really holding our application up.

Any input on how this should have played out would be helpful, as when I call the DMP back on Monday regarding this I want to know what I'm talking about.

Hey Fletch,

it seems like the DMP did a mistake.
Normally the process is as follow: (for outland application, I assume that's what you're doing? if inland then please ignore my post as I only know the outland process).
When you go to the DMP, you take with you a form with the instructions etc. The DMP fills out a paper, and there is 3 copies I believe. One is given to you at the end of the medical exams ( it doesn't say anything about the results etc) : the DMP attaches a picture on it and sign that it is the same person being examined. You include that paper in your application to show that you have done the medicals, and you can send off your application.
The results are sent to a regional center, together with the file number, and get sent to your VO. There, they "wait" for your file to be approved, and once you get the sponsor approval from Mississauga, your file goes to the VO and they match up the medicals with your file.

Hope it makes sense to you - if not feel free to ask questions.

So normally you don't get anything about the results. Some DMPs will call the applicant to say everything is fine. Mine said that he will only call if there was a need for further examination, and if I didn't hear from him, it meant that everything was fine. So I just included the slip of paper from the DMP to my file, and once my file got to London after stage 1 approval, it got matched with my file.
My ecas reads now "medicals have been received" - so I know it's there.

Good luck with your application,
Sweden

For family class, one copy is given to you by the DMP at the end of the immigration physical.

There's a unique serial number on the IMM 1017 form. The reason you send that to CIC is that it allows them to match up your medicals to your file. The medical computers are separate from the standard CIC computers (so your medical results don't "leak" into your immigration results). But this isn't the only way for CIC to match up your medicals, either, as your name and birthdate are on the medical forms as well.

The doctor made a mistake. This is fairly common, because there are several classes of immigrants, and the forms and procedures are different. The doctor should have given you one of the forms to send in with your application.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I figured the DMP made a mistake, but it's just good to hear that confirmed. And yes I will be applying outland once I've got IMM1017.

Canadianwoman, you said this is a fairly common mistake, do you happen to know if this is a difficult/time-consuming mistake for the DMP to correct?

I will sort this out with the DMP on Monday when he is back in; I just hope this will not cause too many problems.

Update:

Got ahold of the DMP and he thought I was trying to apply inland instead of outland. This is despite the fact that the Appendix C form I filled out for him clearly instructed him I was doing outland. Fortunately he said it will not cause any issues and that I should just come in on monday and he can quickly provide me with IMM1017.

Its too bad that CIC's Guide 3999 did not provide more information regarding what to expect to receive from the DMP and in what timeframe. We just wasted seven weeks sitting around thinking things were going along per normal procedure waiting for IMM1017 to arrive.

Good to know that it got sorted out so quickly, some DMPs have been less cooperative when they have made mistakes, reading from this forum... too bad for the 7 weeks indeed - but it seems that Mississauga is picking up their pace of processing, so maybe you'll get through stage 1 quite quickly because you applied a bit later...
good luck with putting all together!

I just have a question, so I submitted my papers, does that mean I cannot do the "up-front" medical examination now? and have to wait for the form (IMM1017) the Embassy will send me?. I was so close to booking an appointment but I just wanna make sure with this thing. I will be glad to hear from you, thank you! I'm just super confuse right now, help :)
