When arriving in Canada, I assume at the Port of Entry there are two lines – one for citizens and permanent residents and one for visitors.
1. If this is correct, on which line should a new landing immigrant stay?
2. Also do the principal applicant and the spouse go to the same immigration officer and at the same time?
3. Regarding this: “You must have two copies of a detailed list of all the personal or household items you are bringing with you…” Two copies for each member of the family, or only two copies where we will list all goods all together?
4. Regarding this: “…The lists should state how much your personal and household items are worth in Canadian dollars.” This is not clear to me – for instance, I bought LCD TV set 3 years ago for US$ 2500. The cost of the same (brand new) TV set now is US$ 1500, also 3 years ago US$ 2500 were equal to 3250 CAD, now they are equal to 2300 CAD. What amount should I put?
5. Regarding this: “…You also have to declare all currency and monetary instruments (e.g.,stocks/bonds, cheques, traveller's cheques, money orders, bank drafts, treasury bills) totalling CAN$10,000 or more.” I assume this applies only for the currency and monetary instruments you are caring with at the moment. Not the monetary instruments you intend to transfer to Canada on later date, correct?
6. At the border, can we give an address of a friend where our PR cards are to be mailed, providing that this will not be the address where we will be staying, since we haven’t found a place to stay in advance? If yes, later on - after we find a permanent address, do we have to change the address that will initially appeared on the PR cards?
7. Once in Canada, can one open a bank account before receiving the SIN and PR cards, showing only passport and COPR?
