I applied outland for my American husband and he got his PR in just under 5 months. If he wanted, he could have been here with me in Canada the whole time but he wanted to stay and work in the US. So right now Outland is a much better idea for Americans.

Hello again everybody!

I must say this is quite rough... Basically almost all of you are telling me to do the outland process. The thing about it my fiance and I hate is the worry of having to be 8-10 months apart. But you all say it is ok to keep going and coming back from Canada every 6 months? The thing about this is I am still worried about getting stopped at the border because I will have no proof of going
back so soon. I would also have no idea how to extend my visa just because I want to stay with my then-husband. \

In order to be together long term, for the rest of your lives, then in the grand scheme of things 8-10 months will seem like a small blip. It's not ideal by any means. It's just what needs to be done to start a life together.

Getting an extension seems pretty easy to do. The cost is $100. I'm sure someone will either provide a link for you, or it can be googled. So after you enter, 30 days before the end of that visit you apply for the extension online on the CIC site. Most ask for 12 months to be able to stay there for the pr process. There are many threads on here about applying that i'm sure will help when filling out the form. The extensions for PR applicants are rarely rejected.

Once you are marred and have a pr application in, crossing the border gets easier. It's when you are NOT married and do not have an application in, they tend to be more difficult with longer visits. They will confirm you have your application submitted, and let you in accordingly. If someone stays under the radar, and doesn't appear to be "moving" to canada, there is a slim chance of getting denied entry.

This isn't an easy process. If a couple wants to be together, then it needs to be done. It's just part of all of our stories...
