Questions About Outland Sponsorship

Hi, I'm currently on visitor status in Alberta right now. My status expires on March 30. We have return flights back to Minnesota for March 2. I really would like to use those and visit my family for about a month and try to come back. Is it true that if my husband uses Outland Sponsorship, I am able to cross the border without it hurting my application? I am planning on coming back and trying for another 6-month visit with my husband. Is this a good idea or should I just stay put and keep trying to extend my visitor visa here?

I also have another question about my vehicle. It's currently in my parent's care in Minnesota right now. I'd like to go get it and bring it up here. My car insurance company I had last told me they wouldn't cover me in Canada, but does anyone know if there any insurance companies that would?

Any advice is welcome. This is very stressful for us!

Yes if you apply outland you can come and go as you please. If you get an outland application in prior to you returning in April then you can bring the receipts along to the border as proof. As long as you understand that you are a visitor until your PR is approved and you meet all the normal conditions to enter Canada then you should have no problems. Big no no's are turning up at the border with all your possessions and mentioning that you are permanently moving prior to your PR. Showing you still have ties to the US is useful but a lot of people barely get more than a couple of questions before being allowed to enter. If you want to extend your visitor status you can do that online for $100 if you application for PR is not processed in time. Most US outland applicants are being processed in Ottawa and is taking on average about 6 months at the moment.

try geico or any big insurance companies you see commercials for on TV. make sure you explain you are only VISITING canada, and you want to make sure if anything happens they have partnerships with companies in canada to deal with the issue. i wouldn't tell them you are visiting long term, just mention you drive it in canada because you are visiting family, though your main residence is still the us. there's really no reason to tell them your plans for PR. it will only confuse them and they will automatically assume they can't cover you. this isn't always the case.
