Hello everyone,
I have recently completed the required 3 years of residency, and I am about to send my citizenship application, but two issues have come up:
1. I have lost my record of landing, which I see is a required document. I know there is an application process to get this document, but the CIC website says the processing can take 2-6 months. Now I am going to do that anyway, but do you think it would be ok if I send my citizenship application with a note mentioning the missing document and that I have applied to get a new one?
My guess is that this should be ok because on the instructions document they say: "If any of these documents are no longer in your possession, please explain why".
2. I saw in the instructions that you can request a significant legal name change as part of the citizenship application. I would like to do this if I can because currently my last name in Canada is actually the name of my grandfather, not my actual last name (thanks to some idiot in the passport office of my home country). The only proof I have for this is documents from my home country (new passport, birth certificate), which clearly show both of my grandfather's name and my actual name which I am requesting. So do you think this would be enough proof? They mention that if the proof for a name change is unsatisfactory then they will simply ignore it, but I am afraid that it could significantly delay my citizenship application.
Thank you for any responses
