Hi all,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm currently an international student whose Study Permit will expire in June. I want to apply for a visitor status or a work permit to temporarily stay here. I heard that I can have the 'implied status' before I get the results for my applications.

I have 2 questions: 1) It seems I need to apply for a visitor status 30 days before my Study Permit expires. Do we have a similar 30-day rule if I apply for a Work Permit? 2) Currently the biometrics service is closed due to the virus, and we can have 90 days to give the biometric info. Thus, can I still have the 'implied status' if I cannot provide my biometric info?

Thank you in advance,
Chloe

Does the course length of your qualification allow you to apply for a postgraduate work permit? If so that's what you should apply for. You'll have implied status until you receive a decision on your application, but it must be submitted before the expiry of your study permit.

Applying for a visit visa will most likely be difficult to get approved, because your immigration officer will suspect you are simply trying to remain in the country., and your primary intention is not tourism.

Thank you so much Islander216! Yes, I'm doing a 3-year program, so I guess I'm qualified to apply for a work permit. Do you know anything about my second question? Or, usually do we need to provide biometrics to get the implied status, regardless of the situation of COVID-19? The government website only says I need to apply for a new permit/visa before the current one expires, but it never mentions whether I should provide my Biometrics.

Submit your application for the work permit, write a cover letter stating you will provide your biometrics as soon as the lockdown is lifted and you are able to do so. I'm not sure how the biometrics work, when i did it i got the results the same day but this was a long time ago.

Just make sure you submit your application for a work permit before your documents expire. They will understand that due to the situation you will have to submit the biometrics later, i don't think your implied status will be depend on when they receive the biometrics especially at this time.

Hello Everyone,
I applied for PGWP on 09 june 2018 and started working on 11 june 2018 but my work permit got rejected on 25 july 2018 as i did not submit adequate documents . But, i did flag polling at Niagara border on 26th july 2018 and got my work permit. My question is do i calculate my work experience during 09 june to 25 july?
