Would someone be kind enough to explain the process of bringing a nanny to Canada from overseas and a tradesman for a construction company.

Thank you in advance for any detailed info you are able to provide!

To bring a tradesman to Canada, the company wishing to hire him must make him a full time job offer and also obtain an approved LMIA. To obtain an approved LMIA, the employer must first advertise the job for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. The employer must then pay a $1,000 processing fee and submit the LMIA application for processing. Processing can take anywhere from a few weeks to over four months. If the LMIA is approved (not all are), the foreign worker can then apply for a work permit.

The process is somewhat similar for a nanny. The employer must again obtain an approved LMIA. In addition, the employer must show they make enough income to hire a nanny and have a large enough home to accommodate the nanny (i.e. enough bedrooms). To qualify, the nanny must have at least one year of full time and paid work experience in the last three years - or at least six months of full time related studies in the last three years.
